HERE’S A GREAT PLACE TO START!
1 cup butter*
1 cup white sugar
1/4 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder*
1/4 teaspoon salt
Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Cream butter and sugar together until well mixed. Add in eggs, sour cream and vanilla. Mix until combined. Add flour mixture one cup at a time until well mixed. Chill overnight. Roll out into desired shapes. Bake at 350 for 11 minutes.
1/2 cup warm water
3 Tbsp meringue powder
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1.5 tsp almond OR vanilla extract
Mix warm water, extract and meringue power together until frothy. Add in powdered sugar. If icing appears too thick, thin down with one TBSP of water at a time until desired consistency is reached.
Tips and Tricks
Baking powder – This can be omitted for roll-out sugar cookies. Omitting this helps cookies keep their shape.
Butter – The butter should be room temperature. If you forget, microwave in 5-10 second intervals watching closely until barely soft.
